Dear friends,
I hope you’re all enjoying your Summer with friends and family.
After a short, four-week session in Ottawa I have spent a great deal of time back in Calgary Celebrating Canada Day, and the Calgary Stampede. It has been a pleasure to meet and speak with so many of you both in celebration and to discuss the issues that are affecting you and your families. What you have shared informs my work as the Member of Parliament for Calgary Crowfoot when Parliament convenes again in September.
During the short session the Government introduced only a handful of bills despite insisting (rightly) that Canada was facing a “crisis”. As the official opposition Conservatives passed amendments to close anti-transparency loopholes and improve bill C-5. Although this bill falls short of what is truly needed to build energy infrastructure in Canada (such as repealing Bill C-69) my Conservative colleagues allowed its swift passage in hopes that it my lead to approval for a pipeline project. I remain concerned that Canadians have not seen a budget from the government since April 2024 Parliament adjourned for the summer having passed $486 billion in budgetary spending – but no budget. I expressed this concern in my role on the Finance Committee. |
