Dear friends,

As the holiday season approaches, I have been busy at the House of Commons advocating on your behalf as your Parliamentarian. I have repeatedly raised the issues of affordability, housing, and the cost of living. 49% of Canadians are spending half of their income on housing and this current Government needs to stop making the problem worse with their inflationary spending policies and their growing carbon tax.

The Fall Economic Statement was tabled in the House of Commons last month. Conservatives had three demands for the Fall Economic Statement: that the Liberals cancel current plans to quadruple the carbon tax; announce a plan and date to balance the budget to bring down inflation and interest rates; and a plan to build homes, not bureaucracy. The Fall Economic Statement did not include any of these things. I will vote against it in Parliament.

Response to the Fall Economic Statement:

House Statement on the Fall Economic Statement:

Pierre Poilievre on the Fall Economic Statement:

The Government continues to find new ways to waste taxpayer funds. The Ethics Commissioner, the Auditor General, the RCMP and three Parliamentary committees are investigating Liberal spending.

Despite over $20 Billion in new spending contained in the Fall Economic Statement, the Liberal Government announced budget cuts to the Canadian Armed Forces.  I am a member of the Standing Committee on National Defence where I heard witness testimony showing that aging infrastructure, equipment, and corner cutting have demoralized the Canadian Armed Forces.

Soldier's Testimony at Defence Committee:

On November 3, I moved a “concurrence motion” in the House of Commons and led the debate on a Report from the Standing Committee on National Defence about Arctic security. There are significant threats to Canada’s Arctic Security which are not being addressed by the Liberal Government.  The report has 26 recommendations, including:

• That Canada must procure undersea surveillance capacity to detect foreign threats
• That Canada urgently undertake a procurement process to replace the Victoria-class submarines with new submarines that are under-ice capable for operations in our Arctic waters.
• That the Government reconsider its longstanding policy with respect to the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defence program.
• That the Government urgently address the personnel crisis in the Canadian Armed Forces by fast-tracking the recruitment of new members
• That the Government undertake a comprehensive survey of our infrastructure, including military, civilian, and corporate holdings, as well as natural resources, mining and mineral operations in our Arctic, for the purpose of forward planning for NORAD modernization, developing a strategy for critical infrastructure investments and protecting Canadian interests from malign foreign actors.

You can read the entire report online at: https://www.ourcommons.ca/Committees/en/NDDN. On Wednesday, Nov 29 the House of Commons voted to concur in this report with only the two Green Party MPs opposing. It will be up to the Liberal government to act on the recommendations that they have now agreed to in a recorded vote.

Back in Calgary, I was able to have important conversations with constituents and attend local events.

Thank you to the organizers who took the time to invite me to attend and participate in community events.

It remains my honour to represent you at the House of Commons as your Member of Parliament.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Pat Kelly

Tuscany Holiday Light Up
I was happy to attend The Tuscany Club Residents Association Holiday Light Up.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office
Met Director-General Taipei Economic & Cultural Office (Vancouver) Angel Lui during her visit to Calgary. There are important trade opportunities for Alberta and Taiwan.
Remembrance Day – Bowness Legion
On Remembrance Day, I spoke and laid a wreath at the Bowness Legion #238 Remembrance Day Service where we honoured those who served, those who continue to serve and the fallen. Lest we forget.
Field of Crosses
During Veterans’ Week, I visited the Field of Crosses on Memorial Drive, including attending a sunset commemoration dedicated to those who were 18 and under and died for our country in WWI and WWII. Every year, 3500 crosses with the names of every individual from Southern Alberta who lost their life in defence of Canada is placed along Memorial Drive, a very special tribute unique to Calgary. I had the pleasure to talk with Murray McCann, who founded the Field of Crosses.

Conservatives Making a Difference with Private Member's Bills

My colleague MP Len Webber’s Bill C-210 has been instrumental in saving the lives of Canadians who are in desperate need of a life-saving transplant. By adding a simple question to the annual tax return in Ontario and Nunavut, 2,450,000 Canadians indicated they want to be an organ and tissue donor. Congratulations on this incredible achievement!

Canada launched a 3-digit National Suicide Hotline on November 30, 2023. Congratulations to my colleague MP Todd Doherty for bringing the hotline to Canada by bringing forward a motion that was unanimously approved by parliament. You can call or text 988 if you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis of suicidal ideation.
