Dear friends,

Parliament resumed this fall at a time when Canadians are struggling with a cost-of-living crisis. The rapidly rising cost of food, transportation, home heating and especially housing affects Canadians in every city and province including here in Calgary.

As your representative in the House of Commons, I have repeatedly raised the issue of affordability, including during the current fall session. I have asked the government to repeal the Carbon Tax that makes necessities of life more expensive, and urged them to take immediate action on the housing crisis.

Here are a few videos of my work in the House Chamber:

On Housing:

On Bill C-295, which would create a new Criminal Code offence for failure to provide the necessities of life in long term care facilities.

Defence Procurement

I remain a member of the Standing Committee on National Defence where we are studying ways to fix Canada’s broken defence procurement system. I have questioned Canada’s senior military commanders including Chief of the Defence Staff General Wayne Eyre who have stated that Canada’s procurement is not carried out with sufficient urgency to meet Canada’s defence needs. The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have an important responsibly to protect Canadians, and an obligation to support our international allies. The dedicated men and women of the CAF need to be properly equipped and supplied in order to carry out their important work, and Canada’s procurement system is far too slow and cumbersome.

On weekends when I return to Calgary I have had the opportunity to see and speak with many constituents at a number of Fall festivals and events. Thank you to all the great community volunteers who make our neighbourhoods such a great place to call home.

I will continue doing my best to demand better from the current Liberal government, to make life more affordable by reducing inflation, doing more to get more homes built, and to make our communities safe.

Sincerely,

Pat Kelly
