Dear friends,

It is an honour to be re-elected as your Member of Parliament.  

I am back in Ottawa and have been sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Calgary Crowfoot. The name of the riding has been changed from Calgary Rocky Ridge to Calgary Crowfoot, and electoral boundary changes mean that I no longer represent Evanston and Kincora. 

The 45th Parliament began last week. The King read the Speech from the Throne. As a member of the loyal opposition, I have a responsibility to propose alternatives to the government, to hold the government accountable, to oppose the government when it proposes poor legislation, and to at all times be the Government-In-Waiting. 

My role in the Opposition Shadow Cabinet continues much as before, Associate Shadow Minister for Prairie Economic Development and as Economic Advisor to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre. Parliamentary Committees have not yet been established. 

     Thank you for placing your confidence in me to represent you in the House of Commons.

Opening the 45th Parliament

Last week, I spoke for the first time in the 45th Parliament – from the Speaker’s Chair! The new Speaker needed a break before his deputies had been appointed, so I helped him out facilitating debate and having to read a Bloc motion (in French) and ruling on its admissibility.

My first question to this Prime Minister is one that I asked the last Prime Minister many times over the years. Will he repeal Bill C-69? I got an evasive, deflective, non-answer from the new Energy Minister.
