Dear friends,

I hope you had an eventful long weekend celebrating Canada Day

Parliament has risen for the summer. My Conservative Opposition colleagues and I spent the past six months vigorously holding the government to account for the housing crisis, financial mismanagement, and a growing number of conflict-of-interest scandals.

Parliament has risen for the summer. My thoughts

My Session Review:

In the House of Commons:

The Liberal government promised openness and transparency, but after 9 years a culture of secrecy and coverup reigns. The Liberal government put a gag order on the Parliamentary Budget Officer whose report proves that the carbon tax will cost Canadians nearly $2,000 a year. Faced with a Conservative motion demanding Carbon Tax documents, the Liberal government finally released some of the data they had been covering up. The carbon tax is a drag on GDP at a time when Canada's per capita GDP is shrinking. Canadians are getting poorer while the cost of everything goes up.

Release the Carbon Tax Report:

Carbon Tax Report shows Canadians getting poorer:

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault must resign:

In response to an “Order Paper Question” (a written question that the government is required to answer) that I tabled this spring, the Liberal Government reported that federal tax write-offs jumped 55% last year to more than $4.3 billion. No reason was provided by the Canada Revenue Agency. I also asked for the largest single corporate and individual write-offs (not the names, just the amounts) and contrary to past precedents, they refused to answer. More secrecy by default from this Liberal Government.

At the Defence Committee:

I am a member of the Standing Committee on National Defence, and regularly question Canada’s Senior Military Officers, bureaucrats, industry experts, academics, and the Minister of Defence.

A Defence Policy Update was provided but does not address the immediate needs of the Canadian Armed Forces. It continues the Liberal government’s trend of ‘exploring options’ instead of making decisions, of making announcements without follow through, and of big talk without financial commitments. My questions:

This Defence Policy Update lacks any actual update:

The Canadian Armed Forces are in crisis and the Standing Committee on Defence needs to meet this summer to find solutions. The Bloc and NDP had a choice to either go on vacation with Trudeau or get to work to deliver solutions for Canadians. The unfortunately chose to ignore the crisis.

Conservatives want Defence Committee to meet this summer to manage the CAF crisis
