Dear friends,

There are many rapidly unfolding issues in Ottawa this fall. Last week the Trudeau Liberals acknowledged, for the first time, that their Carbon Tax makes life less affordable, and announced Carbon Tax relief on home heating oil for Atlantic Canadians. When questioned by the media about the lack of Carbon Tax relief for Western Canadians who heat their homes with natural gas, a Liberal Minister admitted the decision to only help Atlantic Canada was purely political (“…they need to elect more Liberals on the Prairies…” - Gudie Hutchings, Minster for Rural Economic Development, on CTV News). I have and will continue to be a vocal opponent of the Carbon Tax, particularly as it applies to home heating and other necessities of life and will continue pressing the government to eliminate the tax altogether.

QP Liberal MPs Have a Choice to Make

For years, I have argued that the Liberals Bill C-69 tramples provincial jurisdiction.  Last month the Supreme Court of Canada agreed and ruled that this Liberal anti-pipeline bill is unconstitutional. This law resulted in thousands of lost jobs (including many of my constituents), triggered billions in capital flight, and denied Canada the chance to be a peaceful global alternative to conflict energy. See the breakdown of the Supreme Court of Canada decision here.

The Oct. 7 attack by the terrorist group Hamas on Israel shocked the world. The war that Hamas began has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza and in Israel.  Many constituents have contacted me with their views, and sadly, both Jews and Muslims have said that they fear that they will be targeted for their faith here in Calgary. My full statement can be found here.

Defence Preparedness

My work on the Defence Committee continues where I have drawn attention to Canada’s lack of preparedness for the current threat environment.

Concurrence Debate

Questioning the Chief of Defence Staff General Wayne Eyre

Questioning the Procurement Ombudsman

As your representative in the House of Commons, I have repeatedly raised the issue of affordability and home ownership during the current fall session. I have asked the government to address rising interest rates and inflation, and to stop killing the middle-class dream of home ownership.

On The Hill

Canadian Bankers Association
I met with the Canadian Bankers Association and had a frank discussion about mortgage renewals. Thousands of Canadians don’t know what they will do when their mortgages renew. A typical mortgage payment will more than double on renewal.
Alberta Pork
I met with representatives of Alberta Pork and the Alberta Pork Council, to discuss the challenges facing the industry.
Community Futures
I met with Community Futures regarding the continued economic recovery of rural and northern communities and entrepreneurs.
CIJA Meeting
I met with The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs Delegates at the Antisemitism: Face It Fight It Conference and heard firsthand about how antisemitism effect the community.
CIVIX 20th Anniversary
CEO Lindsay Mazzucco and CIVIX celebrated their 20th Anniversary last month. I participated in Rep Day 2023 and I look forward to visiting classrooms in the upcoming year to engage students in civics education.

Monthly Poll Question

Do you think direction provided to Military Chaplains by government officials to not longer lead public prayer at Remembrance Day ceremonies infringes on the religious freedoms of Canadians?
